Press Release Body:
Aberdonian pupils considering a career in the language industry had the opportunity to receive some hands-on advice from the man behind one the industry's most spectacular success stories! Head and founder of Lingo24 Translation Services shared some of the secrets to having a thriving career as a language professional.
Freshly graduated from Oxford and passionate about the online world, Christian Arno founded Lingo24 in 2001. With the help of just a few friends at first, he started an online business offering translation services to and from a small number of languages. After being named best e-business start-up in Scotland in 2003, Arno's team of language aficionados began gaining new members from all around the world. By 2005, Lingo24 had set up operations in New Zealand, China and Romania, followed by several other key locations in Europe, as well as overseas in New York and Panama City.
The successful path from a small office based in his parents' home in Aberdeen to becoming a leading online translation agency, with operations in eight countries around the world, was the main topic of discussion in last month's meeting between Christian Arno and the secondary school pupils of Westhill Academy in Aberdeen. His career advice was a way for students to see, "What can be done with determination and the foresight to tap into an area which businesses of all kinds need", says Moira Paterson, one of the teachers at Westhill. "It shows that the idea that everyone speaks English and that we don\'t have to bother to learn other languages is false", she adds.
The chance to give career advice to the pupils studying at the same school he attended several years ago was a rewarding opportunity for Arno as well. "I really enjoyed meeting the pupils and finding out how they want to use their language skills. It\'s encouraging to see that so many of them want to go out and learn new languages, and I\'m sure many will do exciting things", he says.
For some time now, Lingo24 has been offering support for language lovers and people seeking to pursue a career in the language industry. The company's official website (http://www.lingo24.com) hosts several blogs by language professionals and forums where people interested in these topics can meet and share ideas, as well as offering access to a Translation Industry Career Guide.
